The role Role The Microsoft 365 Tenant-to-Tenant Migration Engineer is responsible for configuring, executing, and supporting Microsoft 365 migration projects involving a tenant divestiture. The role focuses on delivering successful migrations of Microsoft 365 workloads, devices, and collaboration platforms while ensuring minimal business disruption and a positive end-user experience. Key Responsibilities Discovery & Planning - Follow and improve migration plans/checklist, migration waves, runbooks, cutover plans, and rollback procedures. Migration Delivery - Execute pilot, pre-stage, delta, and production migration activities. - Manage Microsoft 365 migration tooling. - Perform user, group, mailbox, and workload mappings between source and target environments. - Assist end users with issues and provide local support related to migration activities. - Monitor migration progress, investigate issues, and coordinate remediation activities with 3rd level support. - Support migration cutovers and post-migration validation activities. - Be flexible to working outside of local business hours to support critical business activities. - Strong understanding on coexistence strategies for resource access across MS AD Domain and cross tenant. Identity, Messaging & Collaboration - Support Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID migration activities. - Support migration of Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 Groups, and related collaboration workloads. Device Migration & Endpoint Management - Support endpoint migration activities including Microsoft Intune enrolment, device readiness, compliance validation, and user onboarding. - Validate mailbox access, permissions, Teams access, SharePoint access, OneDrive content, and device functionality following migration. - Use vendor provided tooling to migrate devices as-is both in Hybrid and non-hybrid scenarios, e.g. AvePoint Fly. Stakeholder Coordination & Communication - Coordinate daily and weekly migration activities with Project Managers, Technical Leads, Engineers, Service Desk teams, and Client stakeholders. - Participate in project meetings, migration planning workshops, status reviews, and cutover planning sessions. - Provide regular progress updates, migration status reports, issue tracking, risk identification, and remediation updates to internal and external stakeholders. - Collaborate closely with customers, vendors, and delivery teams to ensure successful migration outcomes. - Provide input into end-user communications, migration readiness activities, and hypercare coordination. Hypercare & Support - Provide post-migration support for users and other onsite support teams. - Troubleshoot issues relating to Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, mail flow, permissions, devices, applications and user access. - Maintain migration documentation, issue registers, reporting, and operational handover material. Required Skills & Experience - Strong experience delivering Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migration projects. - Experience with Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Entra ID, and Microsoft Active Directory. - Experience with Microsoft Entra Connect (Azure AD Connect) and hybrid identity environments. - Understanding of Exchange Online mail flow, and messaging concepts. Especially when it comes to coexistence of user and shared mailboxes in separate tenants during the migration process. - Familiarity with Microsoft Planner for maintaining task status. - Familiarity with Microsoft Loop for Collaboration activities. - Experience supporting device migration and endpoint management using Microsoft Intune. - Experience using enterprise migration tools such as AvePoint Fly, Quest or BitTitan or similar Microsoft 365 migration platforms. - Experience using PowerShell for Microsoft 365 administration, reporting, and automation. - Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with Project Managers, Technical Leads, Engineers, local support teams, vendors, and client stakeholders. - Experience presenting migration status, issues, risks, and remediation plans to both technical and non-technical audiences. - Experience working within structured project delivery environments. Preferred Experience - Microsoft 365 merger, acquisition, divestiture, or tenant consolidation projects. - Enterprise-scale migration programs involving large migration waves and business units. - Hybrid Active Directory and Microsoft 365 environments. - Endpoint migration and Microsoft Intune deployment projects. - Consulting, managed services, or professional services experience.
