Head of Public Policy - Israel

Wolt (DoorDash)•Ramat Gan, Israel•On-site

About the Role

About Wolt At Wolt, we create technology that brings joy, simplicity and earnings to the neighborhoods of the world. In 2014 we started with delivery of restaurant food. Now we’re building the delivery of (almost) everything and you’ll find us in over 500 cities in 30 countries around the world. In 2022 we joined forces with DoorDash and together we keep on dreaming big and expanding across the globe.Working at Wolt isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely exciting. Here you’ll learn more, build more, and ship more than in most other companies. You’ll be challenged a lot, but also have a lot of fun on the way. So, if you’re a self-starter with drive and entrepreneurial spirit, this could be the ride of your life.Wolt is a Helsinki-born technology company founded in 2014, with a mission to make cities better by empowering and growing local communities. We do this by making the daily lives of our customers easier, giving local restaurants and stores new ways to reach customers and grow their business, and offering flexible earning opportunities to courier partners. Wolt joined forces with DoorDash in 2022. Together, the two companies now operate a local commerce platform across more than 40 countries, combining DoorDash's technology and scale with Wolt's operational excellence across Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. Israel is one of Wolt's most established and strategically important markets. As the business has grown — expanding beyond food delivery into retail, new categories such as pharmacy, and emerging mobility technologies — so has the complexity of the regulatory, legislative, and public affairs environment Wolt operates in locally. The platform economy in Israel is still relatively new and evolving quickly, which makes an active, senior public policy presence essential to the business's continued growth. Role Summary We are looking for a Head of Public Policy, Israel, based in our Tel Aviv office, to take full ownership of Wolt's public policy function in Israel. You’ll be joining the DoorDash International Public Policy team, working closely with global centres of excellence, cross-functional partners, and local business leadership. This role reports to the VP, International Public Policy at DoorDash / Wolt / Deliveroo, based in Helsinki. What You'll Be Doing Own Wolt Israel's public policy strategy: identify, map, and prioritize the regulatory risks, legislative threats, and business opportunities that matter most, and build a plan to act on them. Build and maintain senior relationships across government — relevant ministries, regulators, and the Knesset — to advance legislation that supports responsible growth of the platform economy and to counter legislation that would harm it, with particular focus on the future of platform work. Engage constructively with the key regulatory authorities as Wolt continues to scale in a large, fast-growing, and still-maturing platform economy market. Build and maintain relationships with mayors and municipal leadership to protect and strengthen Wolt's operating environment at the local level. Identify and help unlock new business opportunities that require public policy engagement, such as expansion into regulated product categories. Support the responsible introduction of new technologies relevant to Wolt's business as they become regulatory topics in Israel, including in the space of autonomy. Partner closely with the Communications team so that public policy positioning and public perception are aligned. Manage Wolt's external public policy / government relations agency and other third-party advisors. Maintain relationships with other key stakeholders relevant to the business, including the U.S. Embassy. Our Expectations 12+ years of public policy experience, in the public sector, private sector, or (ideally) both. A degree in law, public policy, political science, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred but not required. A demonstrated network and credibility with senior Israeli government officials, regulators, and Knesset members. Direct experience with, or strong understanding of, labor and platform-economy policy issues. Experience navigating regulatory authorities. Comfortable operating independently at a senior level — able to set strategy and represent the company externally, but equally willing to do the hands-on work of research and writing. Experience managing external agencies or consultants. A legal background or degree is an advantage, though not required. Fluent Hebrew and strong professional English, with the ability to translate Israel-specific context for a global audience. Prior experience working within a global or matrixed corporate structure is an advantage. Comfortable working closely with Legal, Communications, and other cross-functional teams. Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion We’re committed to growing and empowering a more inclusive community within our company, industry, and cities. That’s why we hire and cultivate diverse teams of people from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We believe that true innovation happens when everyone has room at the table and the tools, resources, and opportunity to excel.
