Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Steering Systems
About the Role
RoleResponsible for design and development of steering system components based on customer and project requirements. The role involves end-to-end component ownership, timely and error-free execution of engineering activities, technical coordination, mentoring, and driving innovation and cost optimization.Key ResponsibilitiesUnderstand customer requirements and translate them into robust mechanical designs.Perform design and development of steering system components and assemblies from concept to release.Create/review 3D models, 2D drawings, GD&T and engineering documentation.Plan and estimate engineering activities and ensure delivery within agreed timelines and quality requirements.Coordinate with cross-functional teams and provide technical inputs for design reviews and quality checks.Take end-to-end ownership of assigned components, including design, validation support and engineering changes.Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on design and problem solving.Drive design optimization, innovation, value engineering and cost-saving initiatives.Key SkillsStrong mechanical design and development fundamentals.Good knowledge of automotive steering systems/components.Proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA / Creo / NX / SolidWorks.Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials, manufacturing processes and DFMA.Understanding of FMEA, design validation, root-cause analysis and change management.Good communication, problem-solving and technical leadership skills.Expected Experience10+ years of relevant mechanical design/development experience.Preferably 3+ years of experience in automotive steering/chassis systems.Experience in component ownership, design optimization/cost reduction and mentoring engineers.Experience working with customer requirements and cross-functional/global teams is preferred.EducationB.E./B.Tech/ME.E/ MTech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.B.E Mechanical, M.E Mechanical10-12 years
