Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) – Weather Platforms

Spire Global•Boulder, Colorado, United States•On-site•($130,500 - $171,000)

About the Role

Spire’s Weather & Climate Team: Spire Global collects weather and Earth-observation data through its satellite constellation. Our Weather division combines proprietary observations with AI and numerical weather forecasts to build operational platforms for aviation, utilities, and other industries. These platforms help customers track assets, understand weather exposure, and act on forecasts and alerts. The Role: Our team builds most of its code with AI tools, and we build quickly. We need an engineer whose job is to make sure that code works before it ships to customers: writing automated tests, owning the CI pipeline, and reviewing what gets released. You will also write some product code, mainly bug fixes and small features in the frontend and platform. This job needs someone who takes ownership without being asked, communicates clearly with engineers, scientists, and product people, and cares about what Spire is trying to do. Responsibilities: Write and maintain automated tests for frontend workflows and backend APIs. Own CI/CD quality gates and decide when a release is ready. Check that data-rich interfaces stay correct as data updates, including forecast uncertainty, data freshness, and alert severity. Build test tooling and synthetic data for reproducible scenarios. Fix bugs and contribute production code where it helps. Use AI coding tools for test development and debugging. Collaborate with product, design, scientists, and API engineers; turn ambiguous requirements into testable, shippable increments. Basic Skills/Qualifications: Software engineering background with production experience. Test automation experience across UI, API, and CI. Demonstrated fluency with frontier AI models and agentic coding tools. Show us what you shipped, how AI helped, and how you validated it. Experience with complex state, async data, and failure modes. A bias toward action: move quickly, seek feedback early, and follow through until the product works reliably. Desired Skills/Qualifications: Weather, geospatial, aviation, or utility industry experience. Interactive mapping and visualization experience with tools such as MapLibre, Mapbox, or deck.gl. Familiarity with forecast data, uncertainty, geographic coordinates, and large spatial or time-series A portfolio of useful, deployed products built with AI-assisted workflows. Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office. Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required for this role. If needed, Spire will arrange the necessary licenses—this is not something candidates need to have before applying. #LI-MK1The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below.
